2006-05-05 .eu-domians for everybody

Since the 7th of April european companies and organizations as well as privat individuals, which are registered in Europe, can register their requested domain under the new top-level .eu. So far it was only possible for owner of trademarks and names.

The new .eu-domains are seen as a strong competitor to the powerful .com-domains and shall improve the competitiveness of Europe. By the uniform ending the European market shall get an own identity and shall establish a border between the American and the Asiatic market.
The allocation of the domains is administrated by the Belgian registration-department EURid. This department could announced more then 300.000 registrations within the first hour and more then 1 million registrations after 24 hours. At first the domains decoration.eu, buchung.eu, tankstellen.eu and eurorechner.eu were registered. Today the number of registered domains is 1,719 million and therefore the .eu domain-ending is already now the fourth largest of the world.

According the domain market-place Sedo there are probably 50% of the domains planned for reselling, many domains are today already for sale.
The ERP4all Business Software GmbH has protected the own trade-names.
